XIII WPDE2014 To celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Professor Gustavo Perla Menzala During the days 09, 10, 11 and 12 of September, 2014, the National Laboratory of Scientific Computing (LNCC), located in the city of Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, will host a Workshop on Partial Differential Equations to celebarte the 70th Anniversary of Professor Gustavo Perla Menzala. One of the main goals of the Workshop is to promote, encourage and bring together the interaction between theoretical and applied scientists to establish an interdisciplinary forum to discuss recent developments and results. We hope to create an environment capable of providing fruitful and promising interchange and discussions among the participants on the intriguing and challenging problems in Partial Differential Equations. Gustavo Perla Menzala - Short Biography Born on September 21, 1944 in the city of Lima (Perú). His undergraduate studies were at the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos (Lima/Perú) at the Facultad de Ciencias Físicas y Matemáticas. At the age of 22 he began working as a ''Jefe de Práctica'' at the University of San Marcos and in 1968 came to Brazil to continue his mathematical studies at the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) where he obtained his Master degree in 1969 under the supervision of Prof. L. A. Medeiros. In 1970 started his studies at Brown University (USA) where concluded the PhD in 1974 under the supervision of Prof. W. A. Strauss. Back to Brasil in September 1974 started working at the IM/UFRJ. Since 1985 he holds the position of full research at the Laboratory of Scientific Computation (LNCC) and part time at the IM/UFRJ. Along the years he was a Visiting Professor in several universities in USA and Europe (New York University, University of Maryland, Brown University, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidade de Lisboa, Koeln University, Konstanz University, University of Pisa, etc.) and was doctoral advisor of several students at the IM/UFRJ.
